Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Epithelial lung tumors, adenomas and adenocarcinomas peripherally located, are rare in rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs and primates, they are frequent in some strains of mice, such as Swiss and BalbC, and rare in others such as C57 black and Dba. Spontaneous peripheral squamous carcinomas are extremely rare in all animals, as are other tumor types, including non epithelial tumors. Radiation-induced lung cancers are non fatal in rats and probably fatal in mice, they appear late in the life in laboratory animals, the lower the doses and dose rates, the longer their latency period. For that reason and from a practical point of view, experiments in the future will probably be limited to rodents, whose life span is short; cancer induction in dogs may require more than 10 years and possibly a 20 year survey is needed to complete a study in higher primates.
