• Risks for hemorrhage increase with the dosage of anticoagulant taken, blood vessel injury, and higher trending INR, prothrombin time (PT), and partial thromboplastin time (PTT) levels. zNewer factor Xa inhibitors are available for anticoagulation including apixaban, dabigatran, fondaparinux, and rivaroxaban, which do not require INR monitoring [5,6]. Medical history was significant for chronic elevation of hemoglobin of unknown etiology, heterozygous factor V Leiden mutation, deep vein thrombosis status post-total hip arthroplasty, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
