• The BOD, C.O.D. , and TOC of cutting fluids, consisting of oil-in-water emulsions, have been determined. The results confirm previous reports that the BOD:COD ratios have declined and that cutting fluids are becoming more resistant to microbial attack. It is suggested that this tendency may lead to formulations which will not be acceptable for disposal by conventional biological processes.
