  • Since Shakespeare was concerned with all the commonality of humanity, he revealed elements in humanity common to us all and in so doing furthered democracy. He was especially useful in a much broader sense in times of crisis and cultural change and remains so. Shakespeare has provided a rope of history and commonality of culture that has worked both openly and covertly to bind the nation together in the common bond of culture and democracy that his works promote. In his plays are compressed and revealed all aspects of the drama of statehood and life, and those revelations have been especially useful in a developing democratic nation like the United States.
