Patient education for pregnancy and childbirth has not been well studied. Although there has been a proliferation of available options for seeking pregnancy-related health facts, women do not always have the most accurate information to be full partners in clinical decision making. There are limited data on what type of education childbearing women desire and what works best for ensuring that women are fully informed on key safety issues. Elective labor induction is often considered by pregnant women and offered as an option by their providers. A review of the state of patient education regarding elective induction of labor is presented.
