• The article states that the Glomar Explorer will undergo a major overhaul that will equip the vessel to drill in 13,000 feet of water down to 20,000 feet below the sea floor. The operation is part of the Ocean Margin Drilling Programme, a 10-year, dollar 700 million exploratory programme of the ocean margins initiated by the National Science Foundation. Phase one of the programme has been endorsd by eight oil firms which have agreed, in principle, to split the costs on an equal basis with the Government.
