• The first eight chapters are a general review of the geography, oceanography, and biology of tropical oceans with some emphasis on fish, written from the point of view of a marine ecologist. The last two chapters are an integration of individual studies of the population biology of fish and marine invertebrates into a simple model describing the reproduction, growth, and mortality of these populations, written from the point of view of a fisheries biologist. The authors intend that these two approaches will complement each other, and together will provide a useful introduction to the biological basis of tropical fisheries.
