  • Results are presented from an interlaboratory study to compare the precision and accuracy of the results obtained by concurrent gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of water samples containing several chlorinated aromatic compounds, organochlorines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and organophosphates (the compounds used are listed in a table). The results submitted by 6 independent laboratories were analysed statistically, and it was concluded that concurrent multicomponent multiclass analysis at the ng level could be performed effectively for chlorinated aromatics, organochlorines, and PAH with a confidence that about 90 per cent of the results would be within plus or minus 40 per cent of the true values. The accuracy for organophosphates would be lower (about 65 per cent of the results within plus or minus 60 per cent of the true values).
