• One solution to conservation of natural resources that also promotes sustainable development in heavily populated regions is to foster biosphere reserves in and around urban areas. Environmental declinations that call for immediate and long-term solutions in such areas are discussed, followed by a review of the history and development of biosphere reserves. Local communities should be educated on the benefits of conservation and sustainability generally, as well as biosphere reserves specifically. The overall goal of any new reserve must be to conserve nature by reconnecting people to it and helping them learn more about it.
