Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • The Gwich'in have traditionally lived from the interior of the Yukon into the Mackenzie Basin, but most now live in four communities in the Gwich'in Settlement Area established in 1992. These communities have renewed their interest in traditional clothing made from white caribou hides and other natural materials. These garments require a high level of skill and artistry, which has died out over the past 100 years. The Gwich'in SOcial and Cultural Institute has worked to create replicas of a traditional summer outfit, based on orginal materials on loan from the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Traditional materials include white tanned caribou hides, quills, and silverberry seeds.
