• The toxicity of the oil dispersant, Omni-Clean super( registered ), to the sheepshead minnow Cyprinodon variegatus was determined in combination with fuel oil no. 2 in various ratios. The 96-h acute bioassay and the 7-d early-life stage bioassay were used. The dispersant/oil combinations used were 1:10, 1:5, 1:3, 1:2, and 1:1, as well as dispersant and oil alone. The LC sub(50) values in the 7-d tests ranged from 68.6 mg/l for the 1:2 ratio to 140.0 mg/l for the oil alone. The dispersant alone appeared to be more toxic than the oil alone. In the 96-h tests, the LC sub(50) values ranged from 83.2 mg/l for the 1:5 ratio to 191.2 mg/l for the dispersant alone. In this test, the dispersant was much less toxic than the oil. Mean mortality was higher for the 7-d test than for the 96-h acute bioassay.
