The insect growth regulator (IGR) fenoxycarb was tested on the eggs of four tortricide species: Eupoecilia ambiguella Hb, Lobesia botrana Den. & Schiff., Cydia pomenella L. and Adoxophyes orana F.v R. A solution of 75 ppm of active ingredient was applied in the laboratory on eggs of different ages and on surfaces before egg-laying. Compared with the controls, the ovicidal effect of this IGR on E. ambiguella , L. botrana and C. pomonella was very high when applied before egg-laying and on eggs younger than 2 days. Before dying all treated eggs developped to the "black spot stage". There was no more effect on eggs older than two days. On A. orana which lay egg-masses, the efficiency was poor even on young eggs. The results obtained are discussed regarding the practical advantages of using IGR for their ovicidal effect rather than for their morphogenetical way of action on last instar larvae.
