• Commonly used wall-less proportional counters are not suitable for alpha particle microdosimetry, the energy deposition spectra being partly distorted by interactions between the particles and the wall of the counter. A strictly wall-less proportional counter was developed for the determination of alpha particle microdosimetric parameters. The results obtained with an americium-241 source are presented and compared with those from other counters.
