• An essay in a collection of essays on the 18th-19th-c. architecture and cities of the Savoy Piedmont in honor of the architectural historian Franco Rosso, explores the social network, diplomatic relations, residences, and cultural activity at the Savoy court in Turin of the English nobleman John Stuart, Baron of Cardiff, Viscount of Mountstuart, and Count of Bute (1744-1814), on the basis of his documents and correspondence kept while he was England's ambassador (1779-1783) at the court of King Vittorio Amedeo III di Savoia. Includes notes on his interest in local cultural institutions such as the art academy and Teatro Regio, and a transcription of his records (1779-1783) of the arrival and departure of English grand tourists.
