• On the basis of the materials collected in BADARE (Base de datos sobre refranes del calendario y meteorologicos en la Romania) this contribution vindicates the enormous interest devoted to the study of diatopic variation in these kinds of proverb, and paves the way for a new line of research that might be called "dialectologia paremiologica" ('proverb dialectology'). From the sample offered here it can be seen that such proverbs present individual characteristics -- in phonetics, morphology and derivation, lexis and semantics -- that correspond to their particular dialectal origin. It is also noticeable that the proverbs themselves, as self-contained entities, sometimes resolve themselves into certain "proverb types" associated with the particular areas in which they are used: dialectal proverb areas which constitute one of the principal focuses of attention of the geolinguistic study of Romance proverbs.
