• The physical, chemical and biological impact of discharges resulting from motorway construction is assessed in an urban stream. The direct response of different organisms to such inputs is discussed and other effects that may be associated with this type of pollution are considered. It is concluded that discharges resulting from road construction can be serious enough to warrant control measures being implemented.
