• Styropor laminae treated with the two commercial phagostimulants Coax and Gustol were fed upon by S. littoralis (Boisduval) larvae as much as were sucrosetreated laminae. On alfalfa, cotton. fodder beet, and bean host plants, Coax enhanced feeding only on beans, and Gustol was inactive on all of them. When applied together with pyrethroids on alfalfa, Coax had a strong synergistic effect on deltamethrin toxicity, and a lesser effect on cypermethrin; Gustol was inactive as a synergist with these two insecticides. Coax may overcome the repellent effect of the pyrethroids tested.
