• Land has become a strategic asset for the growth of nations. The case of China is particularly telling in this respect. China needs abroad natural resources to support its economic growth and the co-called "Chinese diaspora" is a strategy to face its demographic gender unbalance. Africa thus is a key partner for China's "going global strategy". In this paper we analyze the so-called Chinese land grabbing or land acquisition in Africa. We first describe the macro-level factor that push China towards African lands. We then analyze the case of the Baoding Villages and, finally, we consider the strategies of land grabbing and its consequences on African peasants and rural communities.
