  • Discusses the exhibition Rosszcsontok (Bad boys) on show at the Mucsarnok in Budapest (Feb. 2004). The author describes an imaginary computer game called 'The art of Bad Boys' and how he would base his critique of the exhibition on it, outlines the dialectic between professionalism and non-professionalism which underlies the exhibition, and argues its failure to address the theme successfully and the inappropriateness of the American intellectual jargon which it used to express its aims. He considers the reasons for the failure of the exhibition to live up to its aims, comments on its underlying market-orientation, and highlights work by Lenke Szilágyi, Sándor Bodó, and GAS. He examines the post-Communist situation in Hungary in which tensions between Eastern and Western life styles, urban and provincial life, and nationalism and multiculturalism dominate, and concludes by focusing on László Szilágyi's installation Muterem (Studio) (col. illus.). Other artists whose work featured in the exhibition included: Barna Péli, Gergo Kovách, and Attila Galbovy, Róbert Ferenczi, László Csáki, Uglár, Komoróczy, Szántó, and Goran Dimic.
