• There is no future in a debate about the existence of God; the debate over theism and atheism is meaningful only if it is construed as a debate about the coherence and adequacy of a form of life. This is because the claim that God exists is, in Wittgenstein's terms, a 'tacit presupposition' which is constitutive for a form of life and, as such, must stand or fall with the meaningfulness of the form of life which it constitutes.
