Miner discusses the four allusions by Blake in his works that have not been recognized by scholarly investigation, and they crucially document Blake's recondite fascination with interior and exterior Vision. For instance, in The Four Zoas Man's globular branching "eyes" are characterized as gelatinous sea jellies/Floating upon the tides', creatures 'that wander bubbling & bubbling'--'begetting little monster' that 'sit upon the sandy little pebbles of the tide'. Here, Blake's imagery subtly alludes to an essay in Philosophical Transactions, 1773 (Vol. 63, Part I), which drew attention to the crystalline 'Floating transparent animals of white glassy, or of blue or purplish hue, called wandering nettles, or sea-jellies (emphasis that of the author of this study on 'Sea-Anemonies'), an article to which James Basire supplied engravings, while Blake was an apprentice at Basire's workshop.
