According to global world population projections made by the United Nations, this year it will reach 7,000,000,000 people. This represents an enormous growth, since the first billion was reached in 1804. This paper does not refer only to the current volume and pace of growth since that date, but deals with world population growth and its components (births and deaths) and their distribution by continents and countries. It explains the demographic transition and the 'inevitable' 0 (zero) global growth. It also examines the composition and distribution of the population and the phenomenon of urbanization which culminated in 2008 when half of mankind became urban. Finally, it deals with the changes that will occur until 2015 in the list of biggest cities in the world. Adapted from the source document.
