• Ruthenium(III) complexes of Schiff bases derived from the condensation of salicylaldehyde or o-vanillin with diamines have been prepared and characterised. The complexes are of the type [RuX(EPh^sub 3^)(L)] [X=Cl or Br; E=P or As; L=bis(salicylaldehyde)tetramethylenediimine, bis(salicylaldehyde)o-phenylenediimine, bis(o-vanillin)ethylenediimine, bis(o-vanillin)propylenediimine, bis(o-vanillin)tetramethylenediimine or bis(o-vanillin)o-phenylenediimine]. The Schiff bases behave as dibasic tetradentate ligands.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
