This essay questions the ecumenical history of our modern world and the alleged exclusivity of the Western peoples to sail around the world, when travel overseas were already made several hundred times, in different periods of history, from different latitudes, and different civilizations. These conclusions were reached but not before giving the state of the art of ancient transoceanic navigation and systematic documentation of modern experiments that took place on the waters of both Pacific and Atlantic and Indian Oceans. En el presente ensayo se cuestiona la historia ecuménica de nuestro mundo moderno y la presunta exclusividad y capacidad naviera de los pueblos occidentales para realizar viajes transoceánicos, cuando estos ya habían sido realizados varios cientos de veces, en diferentes periodos de la historia, desde diversas latitudes, y por diferentes civilizaciones. A estas conclusiones pudimos llegar no sin antes dar el estado del arte de la navegación transoceánica antigua así como documentar sistemáticamente los experimentos modernos que han tenido lugar sobre las aguas tanto del océano Pacífico como del Atlántico e Indico.
