In July 2002, two fat dormice (Glis glis L.) died in captivity, suffering from severe depression and accelerated breathing. Necropsy revealed full-blooded kidneys, haemorrhagic cystitis and erosions of the stomach mucous membrane. A pathohistological survey of the kidneys showed bilateral pyelonephritis. This article presents the complex pathological changes that are most probably the result of immunosuppression caused by stress. The described status enabled the spread of conditional pathogens.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
