• Beginning with stories of a survivor of sexual abuse and an abuser who sexually abused others, this essay invites readers to reflect on the question: what kind of ecclesiological community could provide a home for the persons in these narratives. Given their needs and desires for a loving community that is safe, supportive, and able to hold them accountable, what kind of local Christian community is possible? The essay suggests that process theology, a theological reform based on the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, provides clues for the direction the church can take. Five marks of loving community emerge, shaping responses to the narratives and suggesting practical directions to explore. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
