Reviews the book, Die Therapeutische Strategie Problemlosen: Theoretische und empirische Perspektiven Ihrer Anwendung in der Kognitiven Psychotherapie, Heft 13 by Annette Kammerer (1983). Problem solving as a therapeutic strategy has been tried successfully by a number of investigators and is generally accepted as one of the cognitive therapies. Kammerer presents one such approach, in which patients are trained to use specific cognitive strategies to solve their interpersonal problems. The two goals of the book, analysis of literature and presentation of the experiment, are achieved admirably and form a cohesive whole. Unfortunately, the author's prose is needlessly complicated and loaded with social science jargon and untranslated English terms. Nevertheless author has written a very, valuable book, which firms up, clarifies, and enhances the position held by problem-solving training in the armamentarium of the practicing psychotherapist.
