As a child, Hermann Rorschach is said to have had both an artistic and a scientific temperament. The volume lacks, as does its predecessor (Ames et al, 1952) the lively spirit of search, hypothesis testing, and inquiry that characterized the work of Rorschach. The first part of the book is devoted to a description of age trends. The second part of the book is virtually identical with the earlier volume. There would be little point in evaluating the revised child Rorschach book from the point of view of the rich clinical and theoretical contributions the inkblots stimulated, once they crossed the Atlantic and became a test. Child Rorschach Responses has to be viewed in the frame of reference of the Gesell tradition and the general value of normative information of frequency of scores by age.
