  • Reviews the book, Engaging theories in interpersonal communication: Multiple perspectives by Leslie A. Baxter and Dawn O. Braithwaite (see record 2008-05087-000). This book includes many theories of communication as is humanly possible. This inclusion is conducted without distinction about what makes up a paradigm, a theory, or a model. Baxter and Braithwaite divide interpersonal communication theories into three categories: (a) individually centered, such as action assembly, attribution, constructivism, goals- plans-action theory of message production, and others; (b) discourse/interaction centered, such as action implication discourse analysis, communication accommodation, conversation analysis, and others; and (c) relationship centered, such as affection exchange, attachment, critical feminist theories, relational communication, and others.
