Reviews the book, Handbook of Family Therapy, Vol. 2 by Alan S. Gurman and David P. Kniskern (Eds.) (1991). The publication of the predecessor of this handbook (Gurman & Kniskern, 1981) served as a benchmark for the field of family therapy in the past decade. It surveyed, summarized, and interpreted the state of family therapy as an art and as a science in its multifarious manifestations at the highest levels of editorial and publishing scholarship. This second edition continues in the same high vein, adding new ground not covered earlier. Thus, both volumes in toto represent the best summary about the status of family therapy since its inception, even if there is repetition of some therapeutic approaches from one volume to the other by different authors.
