Reviews the book, Personality: Contemporary Theory and Research edited by Valerian J. Derlega, Barbara A. Winstead, and Warren H. Jones (1991). Diverging from the usual personality text, this book deals more with contemporary research issues than with historical perspectives. Traditional theories are briefly reviewed in the first chapter. The remainder of the book contains chapters by some of today's best personality researchers. Each contributor presents a summary of his or her own area of expertise and specific examples of programatic research. Taken together, this is an impressive collection of introductory-level chapters.
