  • Nicolás et al discuss the collaboration between an imprisoned student and teacher from Argentina and three British scholars who research imprisonment in Latin America. They explore the concept of imprisonment as a structural phenomenon that harms both those inside and outside prison. They highlight the hostility towards imprisoned people in Argentina and the intensification of this animosity over the past thirty years. They also discuss the forgetting and invisibilization of common prisoners in contemporary Argentina, despite the country's history of human rights activism. They emphasize the importance of solidarity, resistance, and popular education in combating social amnesia and the hegemony of class power. They describe the work of the Cuenteros Verseros y Poetas collective in promoting literacy, philosophy, and boxing classes in prison, as well as their efforts in publishing and distributing books. They conclude by discussing the community and resistance that exists within Cell Block 4 of a prison in Buenos Aires, where prisoners strive to create a space for learning, expression, and mutual support.
