  • Extensive research has explored Latino parental attitudes towards mental health disorders and their treatment. However, the literature on Latino parental attitudes towards ADHD and its treatment is limited and outdated. This study investigated Latino parents’ attitudes regarding ADHD and its treatment, with an emphasis on the intersection of religious and socio-demographic factors. 139 Latino adults with at least one child in the home under age 18 completed an online survey. Demographic variables and religiosity were explored as predictors of parental perspectives on ADHD using multiple regression and correlational analyses. Religiosity emerged as a notable factor associated with a reduced inclination towards medication as a treatment option for ADHD. Conversely, higher levels of education were linked to a stronger belief in the effectiveness of medication. Gender disparities were also evident, with men more likely than women to attribute ADHD symptoms to external factors like parental mismanagement or attention-seeking misbehavior. Finally, women reported more positive views towards utilizing behavioral management strategies for ADHD. Tailoring interventions by considering religious, educational, gender and cultural factors may improve engagement and treatment adherence with Latino families affected by ADHD. Limitations of the current study include a relatively small sample size and the homogenization of the Latino population. Future research should address these limitations by employing more nuanced methodologies, such as subgroup analyses and qualitative research methods. This study contributes to the understanding of Latino parental attitudes toward ADHD and its treatment, providing insights for the development of culturally sensitive interventions and future research in this critical area.
