• This dissertation comprehensively investigated the experiences of women of color as they transitioned out of their sporting careers, analyzing both the physical and psychological consequences of this transition. Employing qualitative conventional content analysis, the research involved conducting semi-structured interviews with a cohort of 10 women of color athletes, all at least 21 years old. These interviews explored the athletes' experiences during their transition out of sports and the cognitive and emotional impacts of this change. The study's findings highlighted a positive correlation between the acquisition of transferable skills following the transition from sports and the subsequent enhancement of the former athletes' self-confidence and overall performance within their day-to-day work environments. Additionally, extended exposure to trauma, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders among these athletes led to negative cognitive distortion. These discoveries underscored the critical role of psychological factors, particularly self-confidence, and the presence of cognitive distortions after these collegiate women soccer players transitioned. They emphasized the vital importance of mental health support and its integration into sports performance enhancement programs. Furthermore, suggestions for future research included the implementation of longitudinal designs to explore the enduring effects of sports on cognitive abilities. Incorporating empirical data from an appropriate instrument will allow us to gather and obtain the factual data necessary to develop treatment plans for athletes transitioning out of sport.
