Beschreibungen/Notizen
Calentano traditional music from the Balsas River is a cultural expression deeply rooted in the social fabric of the region of Tierra Caliente in the States of Guerrero, Michoacán, and México (Mexico). It includes piezas (boleros, danzones, foxtrots, marches, pasodobles, tangos, and waltzes) and sones and gustos . Calentano sones and gustos are part of the Mexican sones musical complex, a musical style that combines musical, literary, and choreographic elements. Sones are a genuine expression of the various Mexican regional cultures. This work represents the first in-depth study of Calentano music. For over a century, Calentano musicians have created, developed, and retained Calentano musical tradition. It represents the sensitivity of Calentano people and it is tied to the social, political, and anthropological contexts in the region. Violinist Don Juan Reynoso Portillo stands as one of the best Calentano musicians. He has enhanced Calentano music and has brought it to national and international stages. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
