  • This article explores the debalkanisation (reintegration) dilemma faced by Africa's indigenous multiethnic communities, stemming from historical colonialism and arbitrary border imposition. Analysing its origins in European colonial practices, the article delineates the ongoing repercussions on political stability, social cohesion, and economic development. Inherited by post-independence African nations, these divisions perpetuate inter-ethnic tensions, manifesting in challenges like land disputes, resource allocation, and political representation, leading to marginalization. Despite efforts for national unity, persistent barriers such as political instability, corruption, and external influences hinder progress. The article underscores the importance of inclusive dialogue, participatory governance, and cultural respect for sustainable solutions. Addressing this debalkanisation dilemma requires empowering indigenous multiethnic communities through comprehensive policies, advancing Africa towards the realization of "Uhuru" – freedom and prosperity for all.
