  • Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radio transmissions have drawn considerable attention both in industry and academic in recent years. In contrast to traditional "narrow band" transmission techniques, UWB is emerging as a promising technology for providing very high capacity and precise positioning in various applications. Multiband OFDN1 is one of the physical layer (PHY) proposals to support the functionality for UWB applications. However, it remains to be seen if current existing medium access control (MAC) and resource allocation schemes can adequately be extended for this kind of UWB transmission system. Thus, in this thesis, we propose a multi-channel MAC scheme and corresponding resource allocation on top of the MAC layer to efficiently use the bandwidth. By our choice of signaling for MAC, collision free transmissions are possible in one single cluster and a game theoretical approach aiming at maximum utilization of the resources can be adopted. We also propose a coloring scheme with optimal power control for resource allocation in multiple channels of multiple clusters to transmit the pre-determined quantity of packets derived from game theory. We investigate and demonstrate the performance of our proposed MAC and resource allocation scheme under various settings based on computer simulations.
