S (X = 0.02–0.1) solid solution photocatalyst was prepared by hydrothermal method. The UV–Vis DRS spectrum, electrochemical test and PL analysis show that the incorporation of Co not only extends the optical absorption range, but also reduces the band gap width. At the same time, the separation efficiency and transfer rate of photogenerated carriers are also improved. In the process of photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue, the photocatalytic activity of Co
x
Cd
1−x
S was much higher than pure CdS. The photocatalytic efficiency of Co
0.08
Cd
0.92
S can reach 97.3%, and its reaction rate constant is 6.5 times that of pure CdS. In addition, the stability of the photocatalyst has also been improved to some extent.
