Autobiographical sketches are presented which display only a fraction of the depth, richness, complexity, and challenges faced by scholars from underrepresented and marginalized groups in the ocean and geosciences. The sketches also discuss the importance of support from mentors, family, and community, as well as the need for representation and inclusivity in the field. They share their experiences in various subfields of oceanography, such as isotope geochemistry, marine microbiology, deep-sea biology, and marine ecology. They emphasize the importance of creating opportunities for underrepresented scholars and providing a welcoming environment for diverse perspectives in the ocean sciences.
