Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • A model for the diurnal variation of temperature, called heatsine-exponential (HSE), was validated using data from the years 1948-1991 at the Salt Lake City Airport (Latitude 40.7$\sp\circ$ N, Longitude 111.8$\sp\circ$ W, elevation 1287m). The HSE model is defined by a daytime sine equation and a nighttime exponential equation. Parameters used by the HSE model were selected by applying optimization techniques over the entire data base. Accuracy of the HSE model was compared against linear formulations. The HSE model estimated hourly temperatures with an absolute mean error of 1.40$\sp\circ$C, the best linear model gave 1.65$\sp\circ$C. Temperature models were tested in the estimation of chill units. In these tests, the HSE model had a relative absolute error of 3.22%, the best linear model gave 6.02%. Optimal HSE parameters found in data sets of a few years or months were close to those optimal values found for the entire data base.
