  • This study sought a link between organizational work mentality (culture) and organizational performance. 70 respondents in 23 firms from ten different industries whose stocks are traded in Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) participated in the study. Organizational culture was measured by TurkishWork Mentality Survey Tool, developed by Aldemir, Arbak, and Ozmen (2003) with an emic approach that has the potential to better analyse organizational culture minimizing the drawbacks of convergence hypothesis in management theories that could still be seen in practice in Turkey, although most authors claimed it to have been refuted in 1970s (e.g. Hofstede, 1983).Organizational performance was measured in terms of financialstanding of firms and their perceived degree of goal achievement. The performance measures that were employed are namely ROA, ROI, ROE, Asset Growth Rate, Equity Growth Rate, Net Profit Growth Rate, and respondents’ perceptions of the degree of goal achievement of the previous two years’. Financial performance measures were standardized across both the industry and the sample so that comparisons among firms were meaningful.Although a conventional significance level (e.g. p<0.05) could not be achieved in most cases due to the small sample size, the results were promising for future research in this subject and showed that organizational culture had an impact on organizational performance.
