Individuals' health and their propensity to engage in health-promoting behavior are strongly related. According to the temporal perspective, health-promoting behavior involves self-regulation toward a distal health objective. Time-related personality traits appear to contribute uniquely to health-promoting behavior. The aim of this study was to measure the relationship between time-related personality (future focus and trait procrastination) and health-promoting behavior, and to assess the mediating role of health consciousness in the relationship. In this study, 525 Chinese college students (mean age: 19.13, SD=0.95) were surveyed. They completed the Temporal Focus Scale, the Short General Procrastination Scale, the Health Consciousness Scale, and the Adolescent Health Promoting Scale. The results showed that future focus and trait procrastination were related to health awareness and health-promoting behavior. Mediating analysis suggests that health consciousness plays a mediating role in time-related personality and health-promoting behavior. The conclusions indicate that an improvement in health consciousness can reduce the influence of future focus and trait procrastination, enhance health-promoting behavior and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
