In the United States, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is considered a severe public health concern that adversely affects human life and increases overall healthcare expenditures if the disease is not adequately managed. The prevalence of T2DM among Hispanics is higher than the national average. This is associated with several factors, such as decreased access to healthcare services, diabetes education, and susceptibility to higher insulin resistance and obesity. This project aimed to improve A1c, BMI levels, waist circumference, and diabetes knowledge in Hispanic patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in a private family practice clinic by implementing a physical activity education program. The project was a quantitative, quasi-experimental design comparing Hispanic adult patients’ pre- and post-A1c, BMI, Waist circumference, and Knowledge scores. It was conducted within three months and involved 25 Hispanic patients between 18-65. The bi-weekly diabetes education sessions focused on exercise, diet, and education on using physical activity in diabetes management. Post-intervention, the project resulted in a 10% reduction in patients’ A1c, BMI, and Waist circumference means. Moreover, implementing the physical activity education program improved glycemic control and significantly improved participant knowledge scores on diabetes.
