  • Evans and Reid examine the imaginal life of author Gilles Deleuze. The life of an author is a complex and multifaceted concept, often influenced by the works of Deleuze. Deleuze understood the importance of the abstract in thought and the power of power to appropriate what it can from the critical, inverting its energy and taming what is singularly creative. However, the image of Deleuze that we have in mind is not simply the Deleuze of the event or the Deleuze of becoming. Instead, we should emphasize Deleuze's theory of images and imagination as central to our concept of freedom. This is not a trite account of the imagination that fits into identitarian frameworks that are amenable but suffocating to the radical Left. Instead, it is an imagination that faces the intolerable, shatters the representational with the outrageous, and looks upon the future as an opening onto an impending death.
