• This report provides a detailed view of my career path since I started professional activity in 1992 until the present time (2014).My professional development can be summarised by an early start in software development in 1992 when I was 19 years old and attending the 2ndyear of Informatics Engineering at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, followed by a long interruption in my studies during which however, I acquired substantial skills in many technical areas and eventually moved to middle management roles.University studies were resumed in 2004 in the same course at Universidade Independente, where evening classes were available, with equivalences given to formerly concluded subjects at the previous University; I finally obtained my “licenciatura” diploma in 2006.In 2008 I moved to Germany, to the European Central Bank where I am still employed. I work as an IT Architect in many different kinds of projects, acquiring and applying different skills, but mostly striving to design sustainable, cost-effective and secure system specifications.The most significant activities and projects in which I have participated are explained in a way that is meant to show first and foremost the academic relevance of skills that have been acquired and used in practice.Overall, the strong academic basis that I have received in University has enabled me to continuously acquire deep knowledge in technical areas as distinct as computer networks, business intelligence and systems integration, to understand design patterns and best practices in each of these areas, and to apply that knowledge to the specification of often mission-critical information systems.
