  • Any trauma experienced in a child's life can have a long-lasting impact on their cognitive development. Trauma affects many development areas, including cognitive, emotional, mental, and educational development. Abuse and trauma are prevalent in underserved and underprivileged communities; however, quality service is sparse. More importantly, giving children a voice, especially those who have experienced abuse or trauma, is imperative for healthy development. S.A.F.E. (Safe Away From Everything): An All-Inclusive Program to Foster Healthy Development in Children Who Have Experienced Abuse and Trauma is multi-purposed. The SAFE program provides quality mental health services to children from underserved and underprivileged communities who have experienced abuse and trauma while giving them a voice. The new program design is created to always consider is made when it comes to the child's input about their experience and treatment throughout their participation in the program. This program will be holistic in its approach providing many services to children and families, ranging from clinical interventions to mentorship. Due to the lack of trust in the mental health system in these communities, the SAFE program will partner and co-exist within a well-established, trusted center in the community.
