Random-effects meta-analysis estimated the pooled percent change in cartilage outcomes and meta-regression explored associations with sex, age and loading duration. Cartilage composition (T2 relaxation time â□□ a marker that is increased in early osteoarthritis) decreases 5.1% (95%CI: 3.7, 6.5%, I2=0.0%) during simulated standing. Discussion: There is very low certainty evidence that minimal knee cartilage thickness, volume, and composition reductions (0-5%) occur after simulated standing, walking, body weight loaded knee bends and hopping/jumping, and the impact of repeated knee bends may be dose dependent.
