  • The collapse of a toroidal cavity in liquid near a plane rigid wall is considered. The cavity axis is orthogonal to the wall. The cavity is filled with the vapor of the surrounding liquid (water). The dependence of the cavity collapse characteristics on the cavity radius and the distance from the wall is studied. The liquid is assumed inviscid incompressible, its flow being potential. The vapor in the bubble is simulated as a non-condensable gas with a uniform pressure. The study is performed by the boundary element method. It is shown that at any cavity radius and any distance from the wall, the collapse is accompanied by the formation of a cumulative liquid jet directed inside the cavity. At large distance from the wall, the jet is directed to the cavity axis. With decreasing the distance, the jet gradually turns towards the wall. When the cavity touches the wall, the jet impacts on the opposite part of the cavity surface at an angle of about . The jet impact velocity varies from 20 m/s to more than 200 m/s. The maximum velocities are attained in the case the cavity is infinitely far from the wall and the minimum ones in the case of their contact. The pressure in the cavity at the impact moment is not large (no more than 10 bar).
