  • On March 3, 2023, the First Shanyav Readings "Gender Resources as a Potential for the Development of Society: Cultural and Historical Traditions and Innovations" were held at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH). The scientific and practical conference demonstrated the implementation of interdisciplinary and expert approaches in gender studies and the experience accumulated by the scientific schools established in Russia over the past thirty years. Gender equality is conceptually regarded as a basis for the social justice principle, an essential component of political practice and modern social and humanitarian knowledge. The conference's scientific inquiry was focused on the transformation of public relations toward a healthy society. Gender is regarded as the most dynamically developing social construct, reflecting the rapidity of social changes and making a resource approach relevant for finding adaptation mechanisms and an objective assessment of the intangible resource potential of the Russian population, laying the groundwork for a national model of gender equality through a thorough examination of cultural and historical traditions, along with innovations in the context of social change. In contemporary society, the demand for social justice, defined as equal opportunities, respect for human rights and freedoms, the interests and needs of both men and women, and the elimination of all forms of discrimination, including discrimination based on gender, is extremely important. In this regard, Russian society requires new social constructs that are founded on historical examples of gender-equal models. The activity of the project research team of the Faculty of Sociology of the RSUH and the results obtained, led to the new status of the conference-the First Shanyav Readings-which is an example of the restoration of historical truth and a fair assessment of the gender-equal model.
