• Partly, this can be explained by the land-grab performed four decades ago, when the appending of 'critical' to 'utopia' served to encompass narratives which in many cases might better be considered as dystopias. Most of the discussion at this stage refers to Ray Bradbury, Aldous Huxley and George Orwell rather than any of the texts at hand, considering power as a Foucauldian mode of control. Despite the clear introduction of an alternative religion - Hitlerism - to explain Burdekin's future world, the subversion of Christianity here operating as both satire and as religious futurism, for Atasoy Burdekin's text offers instead only a Socialist utopian impetus. All power imbalances in Burdekin's Hitlerist future are explainable primarily in Foucauldian terms, while 'Burdekin's engagement with utopian hope, social change, and the nature of the cult of masculinity' is understandable solely in terms of Bauman's Socialism.
